So this book falls into the category of peer pressure. I seen it all over social media and after reading the blurb I decided to give it a try. I love mythology, but especially Greek mythology. When I was a teenager I had this tome of stories about all these heroes and I still remember how much I devoured those tales of battles, challenges, and journeys they were forced to undertake.

Circe by Madeline Miller
In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.
Threatened, Zeus banishes her to a deserted island, where she hones her occult craft, tames wild beasts and crosses paths with many of the most famous figures in all of mythology, including the Minotaur, Daedalus and his doomed son Icarus, the murderous Medea, and, of course, wily Odysseus.
But there is danger, too, for a woman who stands alone, and Circe unwittingly draws the wrath of both men and gods, ultimately finding herself pitted against one of the most terrifying and vengeful of the Olympians. To protect what she loves most, Circe must summon all her strength and choose, once and for all, whether she belongs with the gods she is born from, or the mortals she has come to love.

So this book falls into the category of peer pressure. I seen it all over social media and after reading the blurb I decided to give it a try. I love mythology, but especially Greek mythology. CIRCE CAPTIVATED MY IMAGINATION FROM THE VERY BEGINNING.
If you love emotional reads, heroines that go through harrowing times, don’t hesitate to pick up this book. Prepare yourself for fickle Gods. They played with humans and demigods as if they were toys. Prophecies and the Fates made sure that the outcome was as harrowing as possible. But when it’s all said and done, these stories are as addicting and entertaining as the best modern tales.
Circe had everything from jealous siblings, to parents that had no clue what to do with their kids. Monsters, witches, nymphs and heroes. And of course love stories. Some ended tragically others endured lifetimes.
The one thing I’ll take away from this story is that it was impeccably researched. The author teaches Greek in real life and it is palpable how well she knows the subject. I learned new things, revisited old friends, and saw a Circe in a brand new light.
All in all, this book stands up to its hype. It delivers. If you love a great and enticing story that enchants but also is full of knowledge this book is for you. The audiobook was fantastic, and the narrator did a marvelous job. I was able to finish it within a week which isn’t bad since I don’t have as much opportunities anymore to listen to audiobooks. When I voluntarily sit down and do housework just so I can listen, that’s the highest compliment I can give a book. I’m contemplating of giving A Song of Achilles (her first debut book) a try, maybe not right now, but I’ll keep an eye on it. And I’m really interested to know which other character the author is thinking about of writing next.

Beautiful review… I have to read it soon too ???
I can only recommend it – and I’ll be looking forward to your review 😀
Wonderful review love! I have a great interest in Greek mythology, so I’m glad to hear that they’ve done their research. Hopefully I can pick this book up soon!
For someone that hasn’t sturdied this topic and hasn’t read any book that has covered the Greek mythology in decades this book sounded incredibly well researched. Now if you are someone that has read or studied this topic extensively you might think otherwise but it looked pretty well done in my eyes.;-)
Good to know! I don’t have a WEALTH of knowledge, so I think I’ll be okay 😛
Awesome!!! I’ve talked to one reader who studied geek mythology in college and she loved it.;-) happy reading!
I just ordered my copy a couple of days ago. I’m so excited! Great review!
Thank you so much ? I hope you’ll enjoy it! I think it’s one of the most gorgeous looking books I’ve ever seen. ?
I hope so too!
