The book was packed with everything I adore. Cute kids, a strong and snarky heroine, a grumpy hot neighbor and wonderful supporting characters. The slow burn and fantastic character building added to the overall enjoyment of this book.

If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn’t been one long enough.
Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn’t know what the hell she’s doing half the time. How she’s made it through the last two years of her life without killing anyone is nothing short of a miracle. Being a grown-up wasn’t supposed to be so hard.
With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for.
Except for a boyfriend.
Or a husband.
But who needs either one of those?

my thoughts
Mariana Zapata has a unique talent for writing stories that are dedicated solely to the getting to know, becoming friends and THEN falling in love. NO insta-crush, or insta-love. Which is so refreshing!!!! That’s what makes her writing so remarkable.
Reading one of her books makes me HAPPY.
I smiled the entire time reading this book, all 600+ pages. I think it took me most of the day to finish Wait for It. That meant I was smiling for 12 hours.:-)
Wait for It was such a feel-good book. It was about second chances. The heroine was down-to-earth, real, relatable and lovable. An adorable patch-work family. Kids that were just too precious. It’s the second book the author wrote that features kids, and they are by far my most favorite.
Diana’s daily interactions with the kids were so on point. I could see myself in her, shouting for slowpokes, and waiting at the door. Making sure everyone had their stuff. Looking for a lost shoe.:-) And OMG the lice situation, I could so relate.
“Do we have fleas?” I gave him his flea medication on the same day every month. Dallas sat up and pinched his lips together, and somehow managed to say calmly, “No. You have l-i-c-e.” “L-i-c-e?” Josh muttered the letters under his breath. “Li-cee?” That was Louie. I still had a hand on my head as I wrinkled my nose. “What—Oh my God. No!”
Diana was such an amazing character. She really just wanted to be friends with Dallas. And I loved how she tried to curb her attraction and keep their friendship platonic even so she knew her feelings had changed.
And Dallas was such a great guy. His interactions with the kids and Diana were utterly swoon-worthy. He was her rock! A guy that she could lean on.
“You are the toughest person I’ve ever met, Diana, but you’re also the most vulnerable, and that drives me fucking crazy,” he said to me. He squeezed my thigh, his voice low and almost feverish. “I know you can take care of yourself, but I want to be there to help you out. I need you more than you need me, and that’s okay,” he told me.
That’s how fairy-tales are made. Not with a billionaire, prince, or rock-star. Instead Dallas was the REAL deal.
Mariana Zapata’s books will always be part of my favorite shelf. Her books are something to look forward to. To enjoy without interruptions. To savor every word. Her sheer talent leaves me in awe.
